Darien Lacrosse Legacy: Chloe Humphrey Wins 2025 Tewaaraton, Cementing Dominance of DHS and CT Grizzlies

In a landmark moment for Connecticut lacrosse, Chloe Humphrey, a former Darien High School star and Connecticut Grizzlies standout, has won the 2025 Tewaaraton Award, the highest individual honor in collegiate lacrosse. Humphrey, along with her sister Ashley Humphrey and Shea Dolce, made history earlier this spring by becoming three of the five finalists for the award—all hailing from the same high school and club program.

This unprecedented achievement highlights both the sustained excellence of Darien High School’s lacrosse program and the elite development offered by the CT Grizzlies club team.

Chloe Humphrey – Freshman Phenom and Historic Winner

Now officially the 2025 Tewaaraton Award winner, Chloe Humphrey made history as the first freshman ever to claim the honor—and the first player from the University of North Carolina to win the award. The UNC attacker delivered a record-breaking season with 90 goals and 118 points, leading the Tar Heels to an undefeated national championship. Her clutch four-goal performance in the NCAA title game against Northwestern sealed both UNC’s perfect season and her case as the nation’s top player.

Her remarkable poise, production, and leadership as a first-year collegiate athlete have cemented her place in lacrosse history.

Ashley Humphrey – Visionary Leader and Finalist

Graduate student Ashley Humphrey, also a finalist and Chloe’s older sister, orchestrated UNC’s offense with precision. She led the team with 121 points, including an astonishing 90 assists, and consistently facilitated scoring opportunities throughout the season. The former Stanford standout and Darien alum brought veteran leadership and experience that proved crucial in guiding the Tar Heels to a national title.

Shea Dolce – Defensive Powerhouse in Goal

Shea Dolce, a junior at Boston College, rounded out the elite Darien trio. As one of the most dominant goalkeepers in the country, she posted a .550 save percentage and recorded 203 saves on the season. Her athleticism and clutch performances helped anchor Boston College’s defense during a competitive campaign following their 2024 national championship run.

Darien and CT Grizzlies: A Shared Foundation of Excellence

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the shared foundation these athletes come from. Chloe, Ashley, and Shea all developed their skills at Darien High School, a nationally respected powerhouse, and sharpened their game with the Connecticut Grizzlies, one of the premier club programs in the Northeast.

The emergence of multiple Tewaaraton finalists—and now a winner—from the same high school and club is virtually unprecedented and a powerful testament to the talent pipeline in lower Fairfield County.

Carrying the Torch: From Kat Collins to a New Era

This golden era of Darien lacrosse traces back to pioneers like Kat Collins, a standout at Dartmouth and one of the first DHS athletes named to the Tewaaraton Watch List in 2010. Her success helped pave the way for future stars, and the Humphrey sisters and Dolce have now taken that legacy to unprecedented heights.

The Legacy Continues

With Chloe Humphrey’s groundbreaking Tewaaraton win, and three finalists representing a single town and club, Darien and the CT Grizzlies have cemented their legacy as elite incubators of lacrosse greatness. As the women’s game continues to grow, all eyes will be on Connecticut to see who rises next.
