Tate is an aggressive defenseman who does a good job of keeping his feet moving when he throws checks. He is athletic and a threat in transition; he isn't afraid to bring the ball upfield himself. I'd like to see him be a little more physical on ball, he uses his stick to try to stop his man as opposed to getting on the hip and shoving him out.

Tate is a classic LSM; good ground ball and stick skills and a threat to get to the goal in transition. He still relies a little too much on stick checks when playing defense, but his length and athleticism helps him get away with it. He needs to work on his defensive fundamentals if he wants to be a top tier LSM.
