With championship bragging rights on the line this past weekend, here’s how things shook out at the Lax for the Cure Youth event.
2029 – Champions: #4 Coppermine Black
Blush:
Southern Maryland Jets came out on top in the Blush bracket, earning wins over NEMS and Jesters Blue before falling to #5 M&D Black 11–2 in the first round of playoffs.
Bubblegum:
Sky Walkers Blue went 4–0 in pool play, defeating South Jersey Shamrocks, Philly Blast Determination, Coppermine Blue, and Gold Coast White. However, they were eliminated in the first round of playoffs by #2 Team 91 Long Island Roar.
Carnation:
Metro Blue led the Carnation bracket with a 3–0–1 record, picking up wins over Liberty Black, CCLax Black, and HoCo Black. Their tie came against South Jersey Select Pink. They lost in the first playoff round to #1 Yellow Jackets Friedman.
Cerise:
M&D Red posted a 3–1 record in pool play with narrow victories over Triple Threat Elite, Team 91 Long Island Thunder, and Predators. They dropped their final pool game to Monster White (8–5) and were eliminated by #4 Coppermine Black in the playoffs.
Coral:
Salt City Pink impressed with a 4–0 record in pool play, defeating Ultimate CLT Blue, Compass, NXT Volt, and Steps California. They upset #6 NXT Black in the first round of playoffs and lost a close one to Coppermine Black in Round 2. Their performance could result in a rankings jump.
Magenta:
Yellow Jackets Manning went 3–0–1, with a weather-canceled tie against M&D Shore. They defeated Legends MD, Cav Lax, and Oregon Pride before falling to #13 PrimeTime Navy in the first playoff round.
Pink:
#17 CT Grizzlies Pink went 3–0–1, with a weather-related tie against All American Aim. After wins over Dynasty Alpha, Team ONE Wildcat, and Team 180, they beat Sky Walkers Blue in the first round of playoffs but lost a tight game to Team 91 Roar in the second round.
Rogue:
HHH Philly Blue finished 2–1–1 in the Rogue bracket, with a weather-related tie against Sound Lacrosse. They secured wins over Hero’s White and Bethesda LC Blue but lost to Jesters Black and then fell to #5 M&D Black in the playoffs.
Ruby:
Sky Walkers Blue went 3–0–1 in pool play, defeating #19 CT Grizzlies Orange, MD United East, and Mad Dog West. A tie with Gold Coast Black was weather-related. They were knocked out by CT Grizzlies Pink in the playoffs.
Scarlet:
This tough bracket featured eventual runner-up Yellow Jackets Friedman and strong performances from multiple teams. Yellow Jackets Friedman went 2–0–2 (including a tie with #11 Integrity Green) and picked up wins over #3 Hero’s Green and #7 Monster Elite Purple. They tied #5 M&D Black 6–6 in pool play, then beat Metro Blue, PrimeTime Navy, and Team 91 in the playoffs before falling to Coppermine Black in the championship.
#5 M&D Black also advanced from the Scarlet bracket with a 2–2 record (tie with #7 Monster Purple), beating Integrity Green and #6 NXT Black in pool play. They then topped Southern Maryland Jets and HHH Philly in the playoffs before losing to Coppermine.
Salmon:
#2 Team 91 Long Island Roar won the bracket with wins over Steps California, #14 Aces Elite Upstate, and #4 Coppermine Black, plus a weather tie vs PrimeTime Navy. They made it to Round 3 of playoffs before falling to Yellow Jackets Friedman.
Ultimately, #4 Coppermine Black worked their way from this bracket to the top, despite an early loss to Team 91. They went 2–1–1 in pool play and then beat M&D Red, Salt City Pink, M&D Black, and routed Yellow Jackets Friedman 6–1 in the championship game.
2030 – Champions: #8 PrimeTime Navy
Blush:
Philly Blast Hustle went 3–0–1 (tie vs Metro Green), winning over South Jersey Select Black, Jesters Pink Sparrow, and South Jersey Shamrocks before losing to #2 M&D Black in playoffs.
Bubblegum:
South Jersey Select Pink went 3–0–1 with a weather tie vs Predators (also 3–0–1). They lost 7–0 to #1 Yellow Jackets Babst in the first playoff round.
Carnation:
Steps NJ Blue went 3–0–1 (tie vs Jesters Blue), with wins over Sky Walkers White, Compass, and Yellow Jackets North Tiso. They were eliminated by #5 Jesters Black.
Cerise:
Steps NJ White went 3–0–1 (tie vs MD United West), posting dominant wins over NEMS, Pride Nova Red, and Ultimate CLT Blue. They lost to #3 MD United East in playoffs.
Coral:
CT Grizzlies Navy went 4–0 in pool play and beat #15 Ultimate LV Blue before falling to #3 MD United East.
Flamingo:
All American Aim went undefeated in pool play but were upset by #12 Monster Elite Purple in the first round of playoffs.
Pink:
#15 Ultimate LV Blue went 3–1, with their only loss coming to #16 Steps California. They beat Mad Dog West, Sky Walkers Blue, and #12 Monster before losing to CT Grizzlies Navy.
Ruby:
#1 Yellow Jackets Babst went 3–1, losing only to #7 NXT Black and beating #6 Hero’s Green, #3 MD United East, and #9 Bethesda LC Blue. In playoffs, they beat South Jersey Select Pink and Coppermine Black before falling to PrimeTime Navy.
MD United East (2–1–1) also made the semis after beating Steps NJ White and CT Grizzlies Navy.
Scarlet:
Four teams advanced, including #9 PrimeTime Navy, who went just 1–2–1 in pool play but found their stride in the playoffs, defeating #6 Hero’s Green, #5 Jesters Black, #1 Yellow Jackets Babst, and finally upsetting #2 M&D Black 4–3 in the championship.
2031 – Champions: #2 Hero’s Green
Bubblegum:
All Lax Select topped the bracket with a 3–0–1 record (tie vs ESLC) before falling to #3 Yellow Jackets Curcio in playoffs.
Carnation:
Jesters East swept pool play before falling to #11 Team 91 Long Island Crush.
Cerise:
Yellow Jackets Patrone went 3–0–1, tying CT Grizzlies Yellow, then losing in playoffs to #1 M&D Black.
Flamingo:
Yellow Jackets Mid Atlantic Whalen went 4–0 before losing to #7 Top Guns Black.
Magenta:
Legends MD went undefeated in pool play before losing to Sky Walkers Blue.
Orchid:
Sky Walkers Blue posted a 4–0 record and advanced to Round 2 after beating Legends before losing to #3 Yellow Jackets.
Pink:
#18 Steps NJ White went 4–0 before falling to #10 Jesters Black.
Rogue:
#11 Team 91 Long Island Crush went 3–0–1, then beat Jesters East and Jesters Black before falling to #1 M&D in the semis. Top Guns Black and Coppermine Black also reached playoffs.
Salmon:
#2 Hero’s Green went 3–1 in pool play (loss to #10 Jesters Black), then stormed through playoffs and beat #1 M&D Black 6–2 in the championship.
2032 – Champions: #1 Long Island Top Guns Black
Blush:
Top Guns Purple went undefeated in pool play but lost to #3 Monster Purple in playoffs.
Bubblegum:
M&D Red went 4–0 before falling to #15 All American Aim.
Carnation:
Steps NJ Blue went undefeated with a weather tie before losing to #2 Jesters Kilgus.
Flamingo:
#15 All American Aim and Steps NJ White both went 3–0–1. Aim advanced before falling to #10 Bethesda LC Blue. Steps lost to #20 M&D Black in Round 1.
Orchid:
#10 Bethesda LC Blue posted a 3–0–1 record, then beat All American Aim and Hero’s Green before falling to Top Guns Black 5–4 in the championship.
Pink:
#1 Top Guns swept pool play and playoffs, defeating #3 Monster Purple, #12 Integrity Green, #5 Hero’s Green, and #2 Jesters Kilgus in pool play, and Bethesda in the title game.
2033–34 – Champions: Bethesda LC Blue 2033
Bubblegum:
All American Aim 34 and Steps NJ Blue both went 3–1, with Aim advancing. Aim beat Steps White and MD United West 34 before losing to Yellow Jackets Thorn in playoffs.
Cerise:
MD United East 34 went 4–0 in pool play before losing to their own 2033 squad in playoffs.
Flamingo:
Yellow Jackets Cetta went undefeated before losing to Bethesda LC Blue in playoffs.
Fuchsia:
MD United East 33 made the semifinals with a 4–0 record before falling to Bethesda.
Orchid:
Yellow Jackets Thorn went 3–0–1 (tie vs Bethesda), then beat Aim 34 and Hero’s Green before losing by 1 goal to Bethesda in the final. Bethesda went 2–1–1 in pool play, then won out in playoffs.
We know every team brought their A-game this weekend, competing for something bigger: a cure for breast cancer. We can’t wait to see how the rest of the summer unfolds!
